Shoreborn

Aquatic Half-Elves, more commonly known Shoreborn, are often found in coastal communities near aquatic elf settlements. Despite the greenish or blue coloration inherited from their aquatic elf parents, the human blood runs strong, and these half-elves aren’t able to breathe water. Aquatic half-elves can also sometimes be found among the raft folk, humans who live intimately with the sea around them and might come into contact with the aquatic elves.

Such children might long for the sights of their aquatic heritage, perhaps even taking up the study of magic in order to one day experience those things and visit their elf parent’s home. They prefer to live near the ocean when they can, so that they might hear the roar of the waves.

Combat

Standard Racial Traits
•Ability Score Racial Traits: Shoreborn characters gain a +2 bonus to one ability score of their choice at creation to represent their varied nature
•Size: Shoreborn are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
•Type: Shoreborn are Humanoids with the human, elf, and aquatic subtypes. Creatures with the aquatic subtype can move in water without making Swim checks. Aquatic creatures always treat Swim as a class skill.
•Base Speed: Shoreborn have a base speed of 30 feet and a swim speed of 20 feet.
•Languages: Shoreborn begin play speaking Common and Lendoran Elvish. Shoreborn with high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic). See the Linguistics skill page for more information about these languages

Defense Racial Traits
•Elven Immunities: Shoreborn are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Feat and Skill Racial Traits
•Adaptability: Shoreborn receive Skill Focus as a bonus feat at 1st level.
•Keen Senses: Shoreborn receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks.

Senses Racial Traits
•Darkvision: Shoreborn can see perfectly in the dark up to 30 feet.

Other Racial Traits
•Aquatic Elf Blood: Shoreborn count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.
•Multitalented: Shoreborn choose two favored classes at first level and gain +1 hit point or +1 skill point whenever they take a level in either one of those classes.

Alternate Racial Traits

The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.

•Water Adaptation: You favor your aquatic elf parent and have developed the ability to breathe and move about in water easily. Aquatic Half-Elves with this racial trait can breathe salt water as well as air. Your swim speed improves to 30 feet. This racial trait replaces the adaptability and multitalented racial trait. They also receive the External Gills (Ex) racial trait like their aquatic elf parent.
